History of Lions Field

History of Lions Field in Port Washington

In 1955, members of the Port Washington Lions Club recognized the need for athletic fields for the children of Port Washington. With permission from the Port Washington Sewer District, the club developed this 11-acre parcel adjacent to the sewer treatment plant, constructing four Little League baseball fields and two football fields.

The Lions Club financed, built, and maintained the facility through the mid-1990s. In 1963, local athletic organizations joined together to form Port Washington Youth Activities (PYA). Over the years, PYA has grown significantly and now oversees and maintains the Lions Field facility.

Today, PYA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization offering more than 15 sports programs serving over 2,000 children in the Port Washington community. Lions Field stands as a testament to the power of community dedication and grassroots initiative in supporting our most precious resource—our children.

This field is dedicated to the members of the Port Washington Lions Club, past and present, whose vision in 1955 made Lions Field a reality.
